One of our favorite spots is the Bradford Rail Trail in Haverhill. This paved path, perfect for walking, biking, or even a leisurely stroll with a stroller, offers stunning river views and a peaceful escape from the city bustle. Keep an eye out for local wildlife – we've spotted everything from playful otters to majestic bald eagles along the banks!

Further downriver in Amesbury, the Riverwalk provides another fantastic opportunity to connect with nature. This charming path winds along the Merrimack, offering glimpses of historic mills against a backdrop of flowing water. It's an ideal spot for a quiet morning walk or an evening sunset viewing.

Coastal Gems & Estuary Escapes: North Shore's Untamed Beauty

Where the Merrimack kisses the ocean, a unique ecosystem unfolds, offering breathtaking coastal experiences. While the main beaches are popular, some of the most captivating beauty lies in the quieter, more untamed areas.

Plum Island, a barrier island shared by Newburyport, Rowley, and Ipswich, is a must-visit. Beyond the main beach accesses, the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge is an absolute paradise for nature lovers. Downstream in Newburyport, the Merrimack River becomes a bustling hub for boats of all sizes. But don't let that deter you! Many local businesses offer kayak and paddleboard rentals, providing a fantastic way to explore the harbor and the lower stretches of the river at your own pace. You might even catch a glimpse of seals lounging on the rocks near the jetties.
